Top 5 Things You Should Be Doing in Your Visual Brand Today

When the rhythm of work and client inquiries start accelerating, the brand development tasks on our to-do list get pushed down to the bottom of our priority list. Sad thing is, some very quick tweaks can be costly mistakes from getting additional qualified inquiries coming in to keep up momentum!

In the last couple weeks, I have had a surge of brand audits with solopreneur/small business owners reviewing their brand touchpoints. A common question comes up, and that is essentially “what are a couple quick wins that I can make in my brand to have the biggest impact?”. Truth is, there are simple and impactful tweaks that make you more professional and appear less hobbyist. I’m gonna share those with you today.

If you are starting to increase client work and want to make sure your brand look is working for you - keep these things at the top of your list.

#1: MAKE YOUR BUSINESS NAME + LOGO STANDOUT

Someone will remember the vibe & colors of your logo way before they remember your business name. Having an impactful logo used in repetition can be game changing. Everywhere your business name appears whether online or in print should appear the exact same. This allows us to train the brains of our community members and show we exist and we are credible. It takes 5-7x to build brand trust and having consistency can get us there quickly!

#2: SELECT FONTS THAT SPEAK FOR YOU

Don’t overthink the fonts you use. Keep it simple. You should have the same fonts used on your website as your invoices, business cards and email signatures. You can craft a visual message by determining a header font, sub header font, body font and accent font. It’s pretty straight forward - San Serif fonts are more modern, Serif fonts are more traditional. If you are using a script, make sure it is an intentional script. Use a font that speaks to the work that you want to do.

#3: USE IMAGERY THAT SHOWCASES YOUR BEST WORK

Take a peek at your marketing touch points. In the first impression, are the images showcasing your work, or the style of work you would like to be doing? Images can evoke moods, and photographers have their own unique styles. Using imagery that showcases your best work and the work you want to do is going to attract the clients you want to work with. If you have a product you offer, show it loud and proud. If you have a service, share an image of you working or how you make people feel.

#4: MAKE MARKETING HABITS

Determine what you are comfortable with for time commitment when it comes to showing up for your community/clients. Are you able to commit to 1 blog post a week, or 2 social posts a week? Showing up consistently allows you to plan your time better, but also your audience begins leaning into seeing and relying on your presence. Don’t let marketing stress you out, just find your time and do it in rotation, it can be as much as you want.

#5: MAKE A BRAND BIBLE

Being consistent is magic. I highly recommend if you are a solopreneur or you have a team that you have 1 document that has: your logo as you want it to be used, the family of fonts of the brand, your brand color codes, the language/mission of your company and some mood images of your work or the work you strive for. Having everyone on the same page allows a confidence in your brand to shine loud and clear to your audience.
